Casco, 2017

This is a site-specific work for Kunst op de Koffie in a just completed house in Arnhem.

Luuk Smits visited the different stages of the construction process and made new work with different materials and techniques which were available on the site itself. He adapted the idea that an environment is a composition of components that he can deconstruct and place in different contexts. Smits is fascinated by the fact that a material has the ability to renew itself in different forms. This is triggered by a potential that can often be found in a material itself. Each room in this house has a new approach, commenting on construction, deconstruction and the context of the room itself. Archaeological finds, on loan from the archeology depot of the Municipality of Arnhem, were shown in stacked crates.
